Towing and Storage Information

Attention Towing and Storage Companies:

New updates concerning title transfers or certificate of destruction due to towing and storage are effective as of April 1, 2024. Please refer to the new procedure for any vehicle towed on or after April 1st, 2024.

As of July 1, 2023, the Form HSMV 82040 Application for Certificate of Title With/Without Registration has been updated by FLHSMV (Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle). 

The new version provides three separate forms:   

  • HSMV 82040 MV – Application for Certificate of Motor Vehicle Title   
  • HSMV 82040 VS – Application for Certificate of Vessel Title   
  • HSMV 82040 MH – Application for Certificate of Mobile Home Title   

IMPORTANT: Effective July 1, 2023, all certificates of titles issued for vessels will be required to be processed using Form HSMV 82040 VS – Application for Certificate of Vessel Title.  All vessels sold on or after July 1st will need to include the updated application with the transfer of title documents.     

The new Forms HSMV 82040 MV – Application for Certificate of Motor Vehicle Title and HSMV 82040 MH – Application for Certificate of Mobile Home Title will be required effective January 1, 2024, however, we encourage you to begin using the newest version of the form to become familiar with it prior to the required date of use.
