Disabled Parking Information

Section 320.0848, Florida Statutes authorizes the issuance of disabled person parking permits for both long-term and short-term mobility impairments and those certified as legally blind by an optometrist. 

Short-Term Mobility Impairments

Those with short-term mobility impairments are eligible to receive a temporary disabled parking placard for up to six months.  

  • Must be specified by a certifying authority 
  • Require a $15 fee 
  • Additional temporary permit may be issued should the need for the temporary disabled placard exceed six months at no charge if applied for within twelve months from the issuance of the first permit 
  • Not eligible for permanent disabled parking placard or wheelchair license plates

Long-Term Mobility Impairments

Those with long-term mobility impairments or who are certified as legally blind may receive a permanent disabled parking placard valid for four years at no cost.  

  • Must be renewed every four years before the permit holder’s birthday 
  • Must provide applicable forms completed and signed by a certifying authority within 12 months prior to submitting the application 
  • May request a wheelchair license plate in lieu of the permanent disabled parking placard
