Title Transfer

Florida Title

  • The Florida title is completed by both the seller and the buyer. This includes the printed name of the buyer, selling price, date sold, and if applicable odometer reading and date read. Also required are signatures and printed names from both the seller and buyer. If there are any alterations or omissions other documentation will be required.
  • Each applicant, or their appointed power of attorney, must be present and show a valid driver license or identification card issued by Florida or another state (this includes any U.S. territory or Canada) or a valid passport or passport card. A valid passport is defined as an unexpired passport or passport card issued by the U.S. government; or an unexpired passport issued by the government of another country with: a stamp or mark affixed by the Federal Government onto the passport to evidence an authorized lawful presence in the U.S.; or an unexpired I-94, current permanent resident card, or unexpired immigrant visa, issued by the Federal Government.
  • Sales tax is collected on the purchase price.
  • Proof of Florida insurance is required.
  • If recording a lien, the lien holder’s name, address and date of lien are required. If the lien holder is an individual, a copy of their valid state issued driver license or identification card must be provided.
  • If transferring a license plate, submit the previous registration or license plate number.

Out-of-State Title

  • If the vehicle is already titled in your name but is financed, and the title is being held by the lienholder you will need to bring in your current vehicle registration along with the lien holder’s name, account number, and address.
  • If your vehicle is leased, a copy of the lease agreement and current vehicle registration is required.
  • If there is no lien on the vehicle OR you are coming from a non-title holding state, the original title must be presented.
  • Vehicle must be present for a vehicle identification number verification. If the vehicle is not available, the required HSMV 82042 must be completed by the proper authority.

  • Payment of sales tax may be due, or a credit may be allowed with proof of like tax paid in another state. An out of state title already issued in your name is not subject to sales tax with proof that the vehicle was purchased and used for 6 months or more in another state.
  • Proof of Florida insurance is required.
