Public Information Specialist

Major functions

The Seminole County Tax Collector (SCTC) is seeking a Public Information Specialist. This position will be located in Sanford, FL and will be responsible for professional work researching, developing and implementing advertising, marketing, promotional, and public relations activities for the Seminole County Tax Collector office.

Illustrative duties

  • Establishes research methodology and designs format for data gathering such as surveys, opinion polls, or questionnaires.
  • Examines and analyzes statistical data to determine trends, opinions, etc.
  • Formulates and implements public relation programs and projects.
  • Creates, coordinates and/or produces media materials for programs and special events/projects such as brochures, pamphlets, news releases, posters, etc.
  • Works with internal and external agencies to develop cooperative marketing strategies.
  • Ensures consistent messaging across all marketing and sales platforms.
  • Develops and implements targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Creates and places advertising media.
  • Manages social media and e-marketing programs for the Seminole County Tax Collector.
  • Responds to requests for information from the general public, media, organizations, and clients.
  • Updates and maintains the calendar of events and posting of information.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Communications or related field, and two (2) years of experience in marketing, public relations, advertising, or related field. A comparable amount of education and experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

*Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License at the time of hire.

  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
ADA requirements

Physical Demands:  Ability to see, hear, talk finger dexterity. Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull twenty (20) pounds, bend, reach, and kneel. Travel may be required. Visual acuity (peripheral vision, depth perception) necessary to operate motorized vehicles. Ability to work in low light conditions.
Environmental Demands: Inside work. May require limited outside duty and exposure to inclement weather, noise, fumes, and vibration. 
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend technical and professional manuals and journals; reports, summaries, memos and letters. Ability to perform advanced mathematical functions including statistics and ratios. Analytical ability to devise programs, plans and ideas from statistical information. Ability to speak publicly and extemporaneous, conversant in theories and techniques of discipline. Ability to write pamphlets, brochures, media materials.
